Prominently located in Beijing northeast of the Forbidden City at a major intersection along the capital’s busiest ring road,
the 110 m tall New Beijing Poly Plaza is a unique structure that includes 24 stories of office space, a 90 m tall atrium
enclosed by what is believed to be the world’s largest cable-net-supported glass wall, and an 8-story Poly Art Museum—
referred to as, in translation, the lantern—that literally hangs from the main structure.
The structure assumes the shape of a triangle in plan; the main building is shaped like an L, and the glass-enclosed main
atrium forms the triangle’s third side. This design reduces the extent to which the perimeter is exposed to the elements. A
series of smaller interior atria maximize access to daylight from the office spaces.
The Poly Museum is located in the lantern, which is suspended from the structure within the main atrium space. Its
crystalline surface of laminated, patterned glass is pleated to increase its light reflection and refraction characteristics.
Within the lantern, exhibition and leased spaces are enclosed by wooden walls that control the admission of daylight, while
common circulation areas occupy the voids between these wood-paneled areas and the glazed perimeter walls.

2006年12月26日上午，被誉为“北京新标地”、“传世之作”的北京新保利大厦落成暨入住仪式隆重举行。这座具有世界最大
玻璃幕墙及世界最大悬挂式钢结构吊楼的大厦已成为东二环的标志性建筑，它与原保利大厦遥相呼应，堪称二环沿线最为
醒目的双子星座。
由中国保利集团投资开发的新保利大厦于2003年5月18日开工，建设历时3年多，总建筑面积约11万平方米，地上23层，
地下4层，主要用于写字楼和商业用房。据了解，新保利大厦的建筑特色尤为世人瞩目。大厦东北立面90米高、60米宽单
层网索点支式的尺度是目前的“世界第一”。大厦还建有总重量约 5000吨的一个世界最大体量的悬挂式钢结构吊楼，同时，
大厦还在国内首次运用了竖向遮阳百叶系统，既保证了冬季最大限度的日照与夏季最大限度的遮阳效果，又避免了光污染
给周边环境造成的危害，这一设计充分体现了与世界同步的节能理念。

新保利大厦采用钢框架筒体混合结构，承托90m高、68m宽单层双向点式柔索玻璃幕墙，以柔韧的钢索巧妙穿梭于玻璃之
间，采用预应力钢缆固定的方式，版幅之巨雄居世界首席，代表了当今世界最高技术水准。幕墙效果在体现北京城墙概念
的同时，还用特别的手法展示出中国的建筑语言，赋予了建筑艺术品般的饱满、雄浑、贯通的风范，建筑文化之厚重感和
渊源感卓然彰显，其磅礴气势更凸显出北京这座国际化大都市的博大胸襟。
世界最大特式吊楼，挑战世界建筑极限
大厦东北面，悬挂着一座8层钢结构特式吊楼，这也是保利文化艺术博物馆的新址。吊楼镶嵌于90m高的大堂中，高约
45m，重约5000吨，其重量、体量在世界建筑的同等结构中堪称第一。吊楼结合中国传统文化元素与现代高科技，外观设
计借鉴了中国传统的叠式灯笼造型，以波浪型的外壳与横向、竖向钢结构线条共同“编织”起一座“空中楼阁”，成为美仑美奂
的璀璨明珠。
