Beijing National Stadium (aka Bird’s Nest; pinyin: Beijing guojia tiyuchang, niaochao;
Chinese:

Address: Beijing Olympic Park at Bei Si Huan Lu, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China
Chinese Address:
Transportation: Subway Line 8 (Olympic Branch Line) at Olympic Sports Centre or Olympic Park
Architects: Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron of Switzerland, who won the prestigious Pritzker Prize for work at London’s
Tate Modern and the Ricola Marketing Building in Laufen, Switzerland. Their higher-profile projects also include 40 Bond
Street in New York, Allianz Arena in Munich and the de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco.
Construction Cost: US$540 million

Though its exterior lattice structure is said to resemble the twigs of a nest, the 42,000 tons of steel bending around its center
make this 91,000-seat stadium look more like a Martian mothership. It must be seen to be believed. Bird's Nest is designed to
be one of the most environmentally-friendly stadiums in the world. The stadium hosted the main track and field competitions for
the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, soccer final, as well as the opening (August 8) and closing (August 24) ceremonies.
