Red Capital Club created with the same passion for Red Chinese kitsch as the
Red Capital Residence a few lanes to the south. Occupying a meticulously
restored courtyard home in one of Beijing's few remaining traditional Chinese
neighborhoods, the Red Capital Club oozes nostalgia. Cultural Revolution
memorabilia and books dating from the Great Leap Forward era (1958-60)
adorn every nook of the small bar, while the theme of the dining room is
imperial. The fancifully written menu reads like a fairy tale, with dreamily named
dishes. "South of Clouds" is a Yunnan dish of fish baked over bamboo -- it's
said to be a favorite of a former Communist marshal. "Dream of the Red
Chamber" is a fantastic eggplant dish cooked according to a recipe in the
classic novel by the same name.
Deng’s Chicken is decorated with small black and a white cats, one carved out
of a beet and the other from a turnip, in homage to Deng’s statement that "It
doesn’t matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice." Don’t
forget to climb down to the courtyard bomb shelter, which has been turned into
a wine and cigar cellar.

红旗车，推开大门，是一个精致的小四合院，弥漫着政治僵尸的神秘气息，厢房是酒吧，沙发全是从中南海更新下来的前苏联式，
单人沙发都可以合坐两头北极熊，所有的沙发都城磨出白色毛边，据说上面曾坐过毛臀、邓臀及江臀。北屋是吃饭的正房，高悬周
南五个斗字：新红资——取“新红色资本家”之意。全是中南海前政要的家厨掌勺，如，邓小平家红椒鳝丝，杨尚昆家酸辣豆苗，刘
少奇家爆炒牛柳，另有刘姥姥进大观园吃的第一道菜，叫曹雪芹茄条，此菜有一种糊味，奇难吃，谁吃谁是刘姥姥。
“新红资”的小厨房里，故每一样菜都有故事，菜单包含了50年的历史。比如“云南香竹皖鱼”，刘伯承元帅最为喜欢。相传他率红军
长征过云南时，当地居民用这种鱼来犒劳有道之师。这道菜的做法是：鱼不带刺，撒满茴香和其他香料，佐以小葱段，夹在两片竹
片中间用碳去烤，便有奇香扑鼻。
还有一道菜，也很有名。名唤曹雪芹茄条。这是刘姥姥进大观园吃的第一道菜。名头不小，但据说此菜有一种糊味。尽管如此，慕
名而点的人还不少———也难怪，到这种地方吃饭，就是要体验特色，谁太在乎味道呢！
