Located in the fifth floor of the stylized ‘Three on the Bund’ complex
beside the glittering huangpu river running across the city,
Whampoa club is a throwback to the 1930s of Shanghai. Rich
mahogany paneling, Western furniture pieces and stylish bathrooms
are seamlessly integrated with Chinese touches like oriental prints
and classic tiling. The bathrooms contain all original pieces from
Shanghai's glory days in the 1930s, a tribute to the wealth and
glamour that pervaded the city's establishments. A central fireplace
commands the attention of the entire bathroom, creating the illusion
that one is doing one's business in a study rather than a restroom. In
essence, it's the quintessential image of mahogany-paneled state
rooms and cigar smoke with a classy Chinese twist.  

Whampoa Club can accommodate around 200 guests apart from the
80-person capability of its exclusive private rooms. So you can think
of throwing a party here anytime if you had a prior booking. Its
modern art deco interiors are as eye catching as the fantastic views
of both
the Bund and Pudong across the river. Dining in its lovely
private rooms will cost you $63 per person. The tearooms are
decorated in the colors of festivity and you get to taste the spirit of
the occasion in the teas.  

The food of Whampoa Club is as good as its top-notch urban
environs. The maker of these lip-smacking dishes is the reputed
Hong Kong chef Jereme Leung, who has carved a niche for himself
in The American Academy of Hospitality Science ‘Best Chef Records’.

What distinguishes Whampoa Club?

If you expect this restaurant to be a hub of modern upscale food and
entertainment, you are only partly right. The city sophistication that
Whampoa Club upholds belongs to both the past and present times.
Sitting in its ‘tearoom’ and enjoying the cuisin edishes from the
kitchen of Jereme Leung is an outstanding experience in itself. If you
have an idea of Shanghai dishes, you will notice a significant
variation in the food served here – thanks to the experimental streak
in Leung!

He has done an elaborate research into the old dishes of Shanghai
and fused them with modern ideas and ingredients. You could opt for
the crispy beef strips with sun-dried orange peel, drunken chicken,
double-boiled clear chicken consommé, xiao long bao, kou shan si
and fruit desserts. Most noticeable about the Whampoa Club drinks
is its 50 specially selected exclusive blends of Chinese tea and the
wines.

皮色拉不想色拉,就是酸甜汁凉皮,到也新颖, 鹅肝糯米红枣中菜西做,鹅肝品质过硬,口感上佳,葱烤银鳕鱼就是把本帮名
菜里的主角换一下而已,不见得高明,因为银鳕鱼和葱搭配很奇怪,事实上味道也的确不出众,山葵芥末酱炸虾球,酱美味,
虾炸过了,东坡肉,量惊人,不推荐,除非嗜肉者,上汤玉环时蔬上菜速度极慢,只是把豆苗塞到冬瓜里而已,走地鸡汤很清
淡,不免怀疑汤的成色不足,两道甜品很可爱,红豆沙芝士蛋糕将中西甜品巧妙搭配,很得我心,天津栗子软酥由细腻润滑的
栗子打造,同样可爱。

  黄浦会 WHAMPOA CLUB 据说光小费就得给个三五百,还得是美金,这是唯一跻身“福布斯25贵”的中国餐厅。
